I was admitted to the master’s program at São Paulo State University (UNESP), with a research project focused on the interface between musical composition, improvisation, and technology, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Marcos José Cruz Mesquita.
The research aims at the creation and organization of a harp sound corpus, bringing together conventional and extended techniques of the instrument. This corpus will serve as the basis for machine learning processes applied to real-time musical improvisation.
The project proposes the use of the SOMAX system, which operates through the analysis and reorganization of previously learned musical materials, enabling the generation of coherent sonic responses during performance. In this context, the corpus is not treated merely as training material, but as a structural element of the compositional process.
The investigation seeks to analyze how the interaction between the performer and the computational system influences aspects such as musical decision-making, listening, authorship, control, and unpredictability. In addition, the project involves the creation of an open base score, designed to mediate both the performer’s improvisation and the system’s behavior.
The master’s research is therefore developed as a theoretical–practical investigation, combining process documentation, sonic experimentation, and critical reflection on the role of artificial intelligence in contemporary musical creation.
